The hosts secured a 93-run victory

Pakistan brought an end to world champions South Africa's winning streak by completing a 93-run victory in an exciting and competitive opening Test in the city of Lahore.

The Proteas, who had a 10-Test unbeaten run in the longest format ended with victory over the Aussies in the World Test Championship final in the month of June, were dismissed for 183 in pursuit of 277.

Starting the day on 51-2, they lost century-maker De Zorzi leg before wicket to pace bowler Afridi to the third ball of the day to push the finely-poised chase in Pakistan's favor.

Left-arm spinner Noman, who took 10 wickets for 191 runs in the game, dismissed Stubbs for two and clean bowled Brevis, who put up a fight with a rapid 54.

Off-spinner Sajid also took advantage of sharp turn to end opener Ryan Rickelton's innings - he faced 145 balls for 45 - and Shaheen returned in the afternoon session to dismiss the tail with a fine display of reverse swing.

He trapped Kyle Verreynne leg before for nineteen and bowled Prenelan Subrayen and Rabada to secure the win.

It was both sides' opening game of the 2025-2027 Test championship cycle and moves Pakistan straight into second place behind leaders the Australian team.

Their victory was built around key performances of ninety-three by opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq and, importantly, number seven Salman Agha which lifted them to 378.

After that spinners Noman Ali and Sajid took advantage of favourable home conditions, as they had in their Test series win over England last year, to maintain their advantage.

The next and final Test starts on October 20.
